New Testing facility for Renishaw

Background

Renishaw plc is a global, high precision metrology and healthcare technology company, supplying products used for applications as diverse as jet engine and wind turbine manufacture, through to dentistry and brain surgery. It has more than 77 offices in 36 countries, with over 5,000 employees worldwide. Over 3,000 people are employed within UK.

The new testing facility building will gather complementary product testing services into one location to enable improved control and greater efficiency. The building will also need to enable access for larger Renishaw products that cannot be tested adequately in house.

Site details and constraints

Proximity to a Grade II* listed building.
Outside settlement boundary.

Our role

The team at MEP were responsible for the following:

Public consultation.
Submission of pre-application enquiry.
Leading a multi-disciplinary team.
Preparation, submission and monitoring of the application for planning permission.

Outcomes

We were able to demonstrate to the LPA that the proposed building would provide facilities that would be directly associated with the business at Renishaw PLC. As such, despite being outside the settlement boundary, the development met the broad objectives of the planning policies.

Planning permission was obtained from Stroud District Council in under 8 weeks.
