Permission obtained for the conversion of a Grade II* listed barn to a wedding venue and erection of additional accommodation on site.

MEP is delighted to have secured Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent on behalf of a rural estate for works to a notable Grade II* listed building located in the open countryside. The permission allows for the demolition of outbuildings attached to the main barn, erection of extensions to the main barn, alterations to the towers including the installation of internal floors. The permission also included internal and external alterations to the associated curtilage listed cottage building, erection of one new building for form reception barn and the erection of a further building to form 6 bedroom overnight accommodation units.

The site is heavily constrained due to its listing status and also by virtue of the fact that it is located within a registered historic park and garden, the Cotswold AONB and within the open countryside.

The team at MEP were able to demonstrate that the benefits of the scheme, i.e. the revitalisation of this important historic asset into a future viable use which would benefit the rural economy, outweighed the harm caused by the potential conflict with the Development Plan.

The team worked closely with Gloucestershire Local Planning Authority and Historic England to provide the best outcome for the barn.
