22 November 2023

Entitled ‘Planning Reforms: Solution or Illusion’, the discussions highlighted the significant changes proposed in the LURA. The reforms are set to present a significant change to the planning system by offering a shift away from localism, and deliver new local plans within a 30 month period, inter allia.

The event was chaired by MEP’s managing director, Paul Fong who introduced the speakers; Chris Young KC, (No 5 Chambers), James Corbet Burcher (No 5 Chambers), Racheal Davidson (Charles Russell Speechlys) and Dr Simon Pickering. The panel provided insightful presentations which sparked meaningful debate relating to the future planning system; the relationship between different scales of policy, the role of Local Plans and emerging technologies.

MEP’s appreciation is extended to the fantastic speakers and also to Charles Russell Speechlys who co-hosted the event, the Royal Agricultural University for providing the venue and their home grown wine, and the guests who contributed to the vibrant atmosphere.
