Local MP visits McMurtry factory

30 March 2026

Gloucestershire is an incredibly entrepreneurial County. The innovation that flows from these niche businesses feeds and strengthens our economy, which in turn fosters prosperity and growth within the UK. It is important that we provide the ingredients to allow these businesses to grow and flourish, so they can provide high quality jobs for the future.

Last week, MEP’s Paul Fong joined Simon Opher MP at McMurtry’s temporary factory at Wotton Under Edge so he could see first hand the innovation that Stroud is capable of, and the importance of growing businesses such as this within the District and in the UK. McMurtry Automotive Limited has produced the record breaking Speirling car which has been designed and built in Gloucestershire. The car is an exemplar of a key knowledge intensive business, and Simon was obviously impressed.

Gloucestershire has a proven track record for nurturing and growing highly successful and entrepreneurial businesses and McMurtry Automotive is a fine example of such a businesses. MEP continues to work closely with McMurtry Automotive to ensure that they have the right premises in place for the growth of their business. The company has successfully moved into temporary premises within Wotton-under-Edge whilst MEP continues to negotiate with the Council for a permanent home for this innovative company, which is located adjacent to Renishaw.

The purpose built new factory will help the business consolidate its activities onto one site and create new employment in the County.
