West Oxfordshire Business Park

Background

The site comprises two units on the West Oxfordshire Industrial Estate which had remained empty for a number of years, despite a rigorous marketing campaign. An application for the change of use of the units to allow a food retail use had been refused by the LPA.

Site details and constraints

The site forms part of the West Oxfordshire Business Park, which is located within Carterton.

Our role

MEP was instructed to resolve the situation, find a viable use for the units in question, and overcome the reasons for refusal.

MEP lodged an appeal and as the same time, a subsequent application was submitted by MEP which provided specialist information to overcome the previous objections raised by the Council and Highway Authority. MEP presented a robust case in support of the planning application, demonstrating that the proposal would not impact on the viability of Carterton’s town centre and furthermore, represented a sustainable form of development.

Outcomes

Planning permission was obtained for the change of use to allow food retail in the subject units by West Oxfordshire District Council, prior to the appeal decision being made. As such the appeal was withdrawn once the permission was granted.
